A CONCEPT FOR SENIOR CITIZENS & THEIR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
(www.covaipune.com )
Covai Property Centre (India) P Ltd
has been involved in creating quality homes for senior citizens in Coimbatore as well as in other cities in South India. The Company created Serene Retirement Communities.
The Retirement Communities are unique in that the senior citizens lead Active Life without any worries with the security of guaranteed quality care until the very end.
Colonel (Veteran) A Sridharan, VSM,
the Managing Director of Covai Property Centre has been the pioneer in this concept lifestyle for seniors.
Covai Retirement Communities for Parents of PWD (person with disabilities)
Colonel Sridharan has been exploring the idea of creating infrastructure for adults & children with special needs especially those affected with cerebral palsy, autism, multiple disabilities and intellectual disabilities and their parents for quite some time.
His endeavour is to find solutions on vital issues like providing care to disabled adults/ children (who are dependent), whose parents are ageing and who are worried about the welfare of their disabled children.
It is extremely important that quality and guaranteed care is provided to the PWD after the demise of the parents and that the system is perfected to ensure that persons with special needs get quality care and services until their life time.
The process of improving the concept with the active participation of many of parents of disabled children is on. In the meanwhile, Colonel Sridharan have launched this concept and have reserved 30 dwellings (this can be increased based on demand) at the project Clover Renaissance
(http://www.covaipune.com)
. He has met many parents in Pune individually and also collectively. A number of issues have come up and these are also being tackled by the volunteers from the parents of disabled children in Pune and others in Coimbatore.
This is by no means complete and a lot needs to be done to arrive at a near perfect model (no model can be ever perfect and will need refinement as we gain experience), with all legal loop holes plugged and with guarantees to the parents of the PWD and their child will get guaranteed quality care and services as he or she would have got from their parents in their life time. The stakeholders are not only the parents but also the Trustees, the Management, the Developer and above all the Person with Special Needs.
Col Sridharan says…
“We need to begin somewhere and so long we have an open mind to refine it and make it near perfect with consensus amongst the parents of special needs children as to how to make the concept work for the people with disabilities.”
